How to Cook Sausage in the Oven for Perfect Patties every Time
Inside: today I am going to share with you one of my kitchen hacks, cooking sausage in the oven.
Breakfast is one of our favorite meals, whether it’s sweet or savory or a combination of both, breakfast is an important meal and arguably one of the tastiest.
I should mention that for many years, I did not eat breakfast as I thought I didn’t like many breakfast foods and I just didn’t have time to eat breakfast. Fast forward to me marrying a man who LOVES breakfast food and I quickly began to try out new recipes and found that I actually did like breakfast and felt much better when consistently eating it too.
Sometimes it is a challenge to get a warm and nourishing breakfast on the table which is why I created this printable with three make-ahead breakfasts so you can have delicious breakfast ready in a pinch.
Eating protein for breakfast
Protein is important for so many reasons, especially for women and you can read more about that in this blog post, but I find that I feel my best when starting the day with solid protein.
For this reason, I try to have a good source of protein for breakfasts and eggs are definitely a go-to along with greek yogurt with granola and chia seed pudding. It’s a little bit of a treat, but we all love it when there is sausage around the eat with our eggs or to turn into sausage gravy and biscuits.
For the longest time I made my sausage patties by cooking them on the stove top and while they turned out alright, I felt like the patties had a tendency to dry out or get to crispy on the bottom.
Enter my mother-in-law mentioning that she had tried cooking sausage patties in the oven.
I decided to give it a try and I was sold. Not only did cooking the sausage in the oven turn out the best moist, yet perfectly-cooked sausage patties, it was also much simpler.
How to cook sausage in the oven
It really is super simple. Now before I get too far, I should say that I have only cooked sausage in the oven using my cast iron pans. If you are on the fence about cast iron, let me just convince you, they are worth it. I love how versatile they are from stove to oven and even campfire! They clean up super well and are non-toxic.
Back to the sausage
To make the sausage patties in the oven, you will preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Form the sausage patties to your desired thickness, I usually do about 2 ounce patties. Drizzle olive oil into your cast iron pan and then place the sausage patties on top.
Bake for 9 minutes, remove from oven and flip, then cook for 9 more minutes. You’ll want to make sure the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. Cook for several minutes longer, if desired, to brown up a little.
That’s it, super simple, perfect sausage patties each time! Have you tried this? Be sure and let me know in the comments if you try this and what you think.
